The Brazilian great chose his favourite top-flight players

Brazilian football legend Ronaldo has included Liverpool and Egypt striker Mo Salah in his list of the five best modern footballers.

The two-time GQ cover star and our 2019 man of the year features in a list alongside Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, who, according to the Brazilian, is The GOAT.

Ronaldo, a two-time world cup winner with Brazil, named Messi, Mo Salah, Mbappe, Eden Hazard and Neymar, but surprisingly, left out his namesake Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking to AS.com, Ronaldo was asked who his favourite footballers were.

"Messi, of course. He is number one, he is a talent that will take 20 or 30 years to see something similar. I also like Salah, Hazard, Neymar, I love watching him play, of course Mbappé... ".

The omission of CR7, a 3-time Ballon d’ Or winner, will have baffled some.

Talking to Sky Sports Italia in 2019 in response to comparisons made between him and the Portuguese by Jose Mourinho, the Brazilian said:

 “I would say that this comparison between us is really a joke that shouldn’t bother anyone of us because when people tell me that, I really can only feel immensely proud of what I’ve achieved throughout my career.”

He also went on to state:

“I am also sure that he is very proud of everything he’s done throughout his career. Let’s just say that the two of us, are the real Ronaldo.”

With Salah waiting on a return to the Premier League with Liverpool later this month, many will be watching to see if he can maintain his superb form and lead his club to a historic league win.
