The event, which for the second year running was without a host, ran smoothly, so it’s likely that execs might just officially make the ceremony a hostless affair going forward.

Despite receiving eleven nominations – the most for any film this year – Joker took home two Oscars, Best Actor and Original Score.

Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Sam Mendes’s 1917 – both of which received ten nominations each – walked away with two and three awards, respectively. Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite, which was up for six awards, was the biggest winner of the night with four.

Where Middle Eastern talent is concerned, For Sama, The Cave, Brotherhood, and Nefta Football Club were all nominated, but failed to take home any awards.

Afghan film Learning To Skateboard in a Warzone (When you're a Girl) won the Oscar for Best Documentary short.
