Dwayne Johnson took to his Instagram to confirm the news

With COVID-19 resulting in widespread restrictions, a result of this has been the postponement of numerous film releases and indefinite hiatus on production. Audiences were disheartened to hear that we’d have to wait a few more months now to farewell Daniel Craig as James Bond in No Time To Die, while the rest of us could only bemoan what such cancellations mean for all those films in the pipeline.

But in times like these, where there is good news there is hope. And in an Instagram live session with fans, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has given us all something to cling on to in a time of crisis, and it relates to a certain film starring the action buff and his supercharged co-star, Jason Statham.

My daily training helps me maintain my balance and mental stability and mental wellness. And I don’t post my actual workouts because I’m sensitive (possibly over sensitive) and empathetic to the millions and millions around the world unable to workout in your local gyms. One day, you will again. And when that day comes, you’re training will be NEXT LEVEL BEAST MODE. I’m averaging about a 50/50 ratio of having good days to not so good, wobbly days. That ratio will improve. As will our conditions around the world as we deal with and, eventually, overcome this global virus. This Sunday, let’s take a much needed reprieve — I’ll break out my @teremana and my cheat meal and you break out your liquid and cheat meal of choice and we’ll have ourselves a lil’ worldwide LIVE Q&A on IGTV. Stay healthy, my friends. See ya Sunday

During the Q and A, The Rock responded to a question from a fan who asked about the sequel to the Fast & Furious spinoff. His reply was one that delighted those watching, as Johnson revealed: “We are developing now the next film, the next [Hobbs & Shaw] movie.” He went on to add, “I’m pretty excited about it…Just gotta figure out the creative right now, and the direction we’re going to go.”

It’s good news for fans of the series, particularly after it was revealed that the ninth instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise will be pushed back by a whole year. But for those who didn’t catch the first Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, there’s no time like the present to catch up on your viewing. The film follows the duo Luke Hobbs (Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Statham), who were first introduced to the franchise as opponents. In this film however, the pair join forces for endless action-packed adventures.

It also goes without saying that when you have two of Hollywood’s biggest action stars sharing the same screen, their guns are going to be pumping more than the explosives featured in a single scene. Statham and Johnson are known for their incredible work ethic and dedication when it comes to honing their impossibly huge physiques. And for the Rock, that meant going through 18 weeks of disciplined diet and intense training. Hi straining regime involved a variety of different workout exercises, consisting of four sets of 12 reps with 60-90 seconds rest.
