Carlo Sestini lives a jet-setting lifestyle. From attending fashion weeks around the globe to glamorous film premiers in the French Riviera – and everything in between – the constant lack of sleep and jet lag can certainly take its toll. So how does Sestini manage it all?
Well, we asked him. And while in Cannes, the native from Florence gave us a breakdown on just exactly how he does it.
What are your morning and evening routines?
In the morning, the first thing I do when I wake up is avoid being on my phone – as it is a big part of what I do I like to take a break in the morning. I make myself a ginger and lemon tea, and espresso, and while the tea brews I do 10 minutes of planking and some yoga. Every morning and night I also have a vigorous skincare routine, however, before big red carpet events such as the premiere tonight, I like to get a few facials, and focus more on keeping my skin hydrated so it looks best in photos. I also eat healthier beforehand to make sure my skin is clear and smooth.
What’s your step-by-step process in getting ready for a red carpet event?
A good night’s sleep is always a good start! Being Italian, I love a good coffee and start every morning with a strong espresso! Followed by a good workout, healthy breakfast, facial and massage during the day. For the premiere tonight I had a facial with the wonderful Mimi Luzon – as red carpets are always full of adrenaline I like to take one calm moment and feel my best! I had a final fitting for the clothes I’ll be wearing, then move onto skin/hair with the wonderful Franck Provost team before leaving to the red carpet!
How long in advance do you start prepping for an event this big?
About one month in advance! I had two facials before arriving in Cannes, and workout every day to make sure I feel my best, both mentally and physically before a busy period of work!
What’s your remedy to fight tired-looking skin?
Lots of coffee, and a good eye/face mask – for those days when I’m running around and don’t have time to rest!
Your go-to skincare products?
My favourite skin creams are by La Mer, Barbara Sturm and Mimi Luzon.
Do you have any detox tips?
I do love a good health juice – at the moment, celery particularly being a favourite of mine.
What’s your workout routine? Do you put in any extra work before events like tonight?
I work out every day, I love it! It makes me feel great both physically and mentally. So before big events I tend to work out the same amount as usual, including the morning of the event.
What’s your eating plan like? How do you keep your energy levels high?
I’ve recently turned vegan, so my eating habits and active lifestyle have helped me increase my energy levels as it’s so important to stay focused and energised. Especially for a big event like Cannes Film Festival, I need to put my best foot forward.
Any tips on how to feel comfortable in front of the camera?
Wear something you feel comfortable in! Style risks are always great, but I think that feeling confident and owning what you are wearing is key, especially when you are standing in front of a line-up of yelling photographers.

What are your three red carpet must-haves?
Jewellery. I think adding a unique ring or cool watch can elevate an outfit. A well-tailored suit. And my cologne as the finishing touch.
Do you take any products with you on the carpet?
I don’t take any products with me on the carpet, I like to be hands free!
What is your signature scent in Cannes?
I always wear different scents depending on the day, but my favourites are by Tom Ford, Kilian and Frederic Malle.
