David Beckham, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo: footballers’ haircuts are as scrutinised as their performances. Indeed, you can’t really be a great footballer, a truly iconic player, without a haircut to match. But now, we can add Mohamed Salah to that list.
The Liverpool and Egypt forward, and our 2019 Man of the Year, showed the world his new style via Instagram. Rather than a simple cut, this is very much in the re-style category.
Keeping the length and curls on top, Salah’s barber has cut the length at the sides, fading the edges up into a curly Mohican. Or, to put it another way, the “Mo-hawk”.
Gone are his trademark bushy curls, that sprung laregly untamed from his head. This, readers, is a haircut with intent, with purpose.
You know how the conversation between Salah and his barber went:
“I want something befitting of a Premier and Champions’ League winner.
“Say no more, fam”
And thus, Salah entered the fray of footballers with “haircuts”.
Granted, he’s not gone full Gareth Bale just yet. And clearly he’s got some way to go before he emulates the avant- garde stylings of Paul Pogba, but Mo Salah is on his way.
Our prediction is that within six months Salah will be experimenting with peroxide hair dye. A hair care line will likely follow, before going full circle and shaving it all off, only to start all over again.
Prepare to see the curly Mo- Hican on the heads of a lot of young men from now on.
