Gucci has completely thrown out the rules of tailoring with its Pre-Fall collection.

Seeing a new Alessandro Michele-designed Gucci collection is different today than it was even a year or two ago. What was once considered radical (prints on patterns on appliqués, outsized proportions, clothes designed for no specific gender, luxury overhauls of everyman silhouettes) feels welcomingly familiar in 2019. Even though Michele's only been in his role for four years - decades, basically, in the fashion game - he's managed to incept the creative world with his ideas, and his influence extends across the fashion spectrum. But maybe the most striking element of Michele's tenure is the sheer number of new ideas he's able to generate every season. Scroll through just a quarter of his latest menswear designs for Pre-Fall 2019 and you'll find fresh propositions for tailoring (bold colors, peak lapels, evening wear for anytime), silhouettes (bourgeois lady staples, made for men), and styling (no pants!). The designer's signature collage of textures and colors and patterns is still on full display, this time with a cameo for Mr. Peanut, cane and all.

Michele enlisted filmmaker (and the brain behind Matthew McConaughey's finest on-screen style) Harmony Korine to capture the complete lineup for the collection lookbook. Shot at two UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Campania region of southern Italy, the resulting images are a very Michele mashup of arrestingly aged spaces and with perception-challenging clothes, all filtered through the eyes of an American artist (who, similarly, does his own thing, popular opinion be damned). Check out the shots below and look for the gear when it hits Gucci shops around the globe later this spring.
