From model, to blogger, to influencer, to actor to author. You could certainly say that Mariano Di Vaio is one of the hardest working guys being honoured at the GQ Men of the Year Awards.
“Hey, this is me,” he explains during the car ride home from his GQ Middle East shoot in Milan. “I’m proud of it all because it got me to this point right now.”

This point right now is 6.1 million followers on Instagram, a thriving business, a book, a burgeoning acting career and a role as the face of K by Dolce & Gabbana.

“That was it for me,” he says of the campaign. “When they called I was like, really? You want me? It’s something I never thought would happen.” We weren’t quite so surprised. And not just because of the sharply angled Dolce looks, but in the positivity of his online presence. “I decided pretty early that people had enough life’s hardships. I wanted to show an ordinary guy enjoying life.”

What happens next is anyone’s guess – but for perhaps the first time in his life, he’s is looking to apply the brakes a little. The day after our conversation, Di Vaio’s wife, Eleonora, gave birth to their third child.

“My kids are growing up fast, and I don’t want to miss a thing, but I also know that I need to take advantage of my situation now. I really don’t know if anything will change any time soon, but I hope not. Life right now is kind of perfect.”
