Mena Massoud Speaks To GQ Middle East About Being Our Breakthrough Talent Award Winner
Even by his own high standards, Mena Massoud has had a good year. Starring in Aladdin alongside Will Smith and now winning GQ Middle East's inaugural Breakthrough Talent Award, the 28-year-old Egyptian-born Canadian could be forgiven for resting on his laurels.
Not so for Mena Massoud. He has more to do, not least of which is driving the conversation around casting of roles in Hollywood.
After accepting his Breakthrough Talent award at this year's GQ Awards, held at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Massoud spoke to us about how it feels to be an award winner, women's representation and how roles are cast in Hollywood.
Elsewhere on the same night, Mo Salah was awarded Man of the Year. Tan France was named GQ’s International Man of Style. Syrian Poet Adunis was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award. Lebanese director Nadine Labaki won Woman of the Year and Turkish superstar Cagatay Ulusoy took the Television Star of the Year award.
To the delight of the crowd, Cheb Khaled received GQ’s Legend award and proceeded to raise the roof with a rendition of his smash hit single Aicha.
The night wrapped with the Salah, Ambrosio and Massoud joining guests and VIPs for an after-party at The Abu Dhabi Edition.
