Rami Malek Makes The Case For Ditching Your Suit Jacket (And Replacing It With A Denim One)
And he's gone and done it again. Last week he announced his new role as the latest Bond bad guy and now he's gone and made a villainous move in the style stakes. And while it's not strictly something we would've previously approved of, it's something we're definitely going to be doing from now on.
So what exactly has he done? He's made the simple move of substituting his suit jacket for a denim jacket (curtesy of Saint Laurent). Yes, we know, a rogue move, but it works. And it's just another twist from Malik that suggests that the rules of menswear, and the suit in particular, are changing. Still sporting a pair of suit trousers, the Bohemian Rhapsody star looked like he had walked straight off one of Hedi Slimane's Celine catwalks, looking more Kurt Cobain than Bond villain.
And it's something you can do with ease. While you could probably go for any denim jacket, if you still want to look smart, we recommend you stick to black. And you should also avoid baggier fits, leaving those to the cast of Stranger Things. Instead, try to grab a fitted denim jacket, which will still be on the right side of smart. While the denim jacket may have first seen life in 1905 as a work shirt, via Levi Strauss, this is just a further indicator that the rules surrounding menswear are changing.
Want to do a Malek and rip up the menswear rule book in one fell swoop? Below are the best denim jackets you can get your hands on. Team with a pair of slim-fitting work trousers and you're good to go. FYI this is a top first date look if you're looking to leave with the prospect of a second one.
