GQ Middle East cover star – and newly-minted Houston Rockets starter – Russell Westbrook has just dropped this first-ever menswear capsule collection with Acne Studios. The capsule comes after the NBA All-Star fronted the Swedish brand’s spring/summer 2019 campaign (when basketball, style flexes and photographer Jeurgen Teller intersect, we tend to remember).
“Acne Studios is already an unbelievable brand that speaks for itself so I’m just happy and blessed to have a collection with them and to be able to show my creative side,” says Russell Westbrook.
In a palette of light blue acid wash denim, teal green acid wash denim and white and black, the capsule collection includes the classic shirts, jeans and short triple threat. Favourite pieces include the half-zip windbreaker with a denim update and large patch pocket on the front with drawstring hem, and the denim utility vest with oversized pockets on the front and piping along the seams. But let’s also talk about the denim short-sleeve shirt takes its cues from sportswear with straight-leg, five-pocket jeans to cap things off.
“I’ve always been interested in the connection between sportswear and ready-to-wear, the dynamic between them especially,” says Jonny Johansson, Creative Director of Acne Studios. “We chose Russell for a collaboration as he is an athlete we admire for many reasons.”
Our take on things? The pieces feel totally RW: filled with denim heroes and outerwear sparkle. Worthy of a game day fit, and, dare we say it, worthy of your winter wardrobe.
The Russell Westbrook x Acne Studios collection will be available in-store and online from October 28.
