The star of The Furnace put the lunge back into lounge suit

Ahmed Malek was in Venice this weekend for the premiere of his new film The Furnace. His first major motion picture outside of Egypt, The Furnace marks Malek’s introduction onto the world stage. A new passport in hand and an unparalleled work-ethic, for Malek at least, 2020 could be his year.

How do we know this? Because he’s already dressing like a star. Witness the big-fit he wore to the film’s photo-call.

An oversized, double-breasted, Maison Valentino suit in off-white, this is not an easy look to get right. It’s louche, laidback, and needs to be worn accordingly, but Malek is a man who embraces change. Note the hastily pulled-back hair, the T-shirt in place of a shirt and his hands stuffed into his pockets.

Suits, and especially double-breasted ones, used to be for strictly formal occassions, but when they're cut loose, like this, the trick is to dress them down.

Ahmed Malek Is About To Go Big

“At first he wasn’t sure as it was such a new proposition for him, but he is very easy going and excited to try new things.”

Proof then, that even for film stars, the process of trying new garms is daunting at first, but will eventually pay dividends.
