So much last week was familiar about Alessandro Michele’s newest Gucci collection. There, in Rome, were echoes of Michele’s signature all through the Cruise presentation, from unabashedly diverse casting, to wild and wonderful colour and silhouettes.
But – and forgive us for this – our eyes were equally drawn to the front row, and the various celebrity style flexes on show. It proved something once and for all: Gucci is the home of do-it-your-way fashion. And we’re all for it.
Harry Styles showed us that an ivory suit can totally, absolutely be part of our repertoire.
A$AP Rocky demonstrating the new way to rock a kimono: the check flex.
Tailoring is back – and all it needed was a little oomph. Alessandro Borghi makes a velvet shawl lapel look fresh, all over again.
Damiano and Fabio D’Innocenzo know the power of quirk. See: leather fringe jacket and ultramodern windbreaker.
Lucas Hedges nails a look we’ve been harping on about: classic suit, print silk shirt. A zero-effort wardrobe update.
Sir Elton John: proof positive that any man can (and should) rock a printed trouser.
Steve Lacy knows exactly how to add pop. A shoulder bag can make enough statement to carry an entire outfit (not that this outfit needs carrying).
Juno Mak taught us a crucial lesson: layer, layer, layer.
Check suit? Eh. This check suit? Yeah. Francesco Motta showed that loosening up a silhouette – and adding some stomp-worthy leather boots – can make a king out of you.
