You Should Pay More Attention To Rami Malek’s Met Gala Look

The former GQ Middle East cover star showed us how to hit a theme and still stay absolutely on brand.

Last night’s Met Gala theme has already spurred a million memes. And it began the minute co-chair of this year’s Met Ball, Lady Gaga, turned her pink carpet arrival into a performance piece that included four outfit changes.

And as much as we applaud these big swerves at events like the Met, we also appreciate the more toned-back yet equally fashion-forward sartorial choices paraded by some of the industry’s biggest stars.

Case in point: Rami Malek.

Here’s Why You Should Be Paying More Attention To Rami Malek’s Met Gala Look

It’s probably fair to say that for those of us who’ve been covering men’s style for the last few years that Malek has deserved each and every best-dressed honour bestowed on him. And last night’s Met Gala look was just another feather in the cap.

Dressed in custom Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, Malek opted for a fit that flirted with key elements of the theme, but still stayed very much on brand – and, as always, very much on trend.

The mostly black ensemble consisted of slim-fit trousers – cropped to perfection, of course – paired with a velvet blazer and bow tie.

Underneath, Malek embraced the campy feel of the night by opting for a shimmering silver shirt, the shiny look that perfectly matched his statement piece(s) of the night: glimmering red and black striped boots. A reference to The Wizard of Oz, anyone?

According to an Instagram post by Malek’s stylist Ilaria Urbinati, that’s exactly what the boots are evoking.

"@ramimalek in custom @YSL x @anthonyvaccarello #METGALA2019 - styled by yours truly #dorothyshoes"

We’ll take it.

So sometimes, when it comes to personal style, perhaps it’s best not to stray too far from home.

Bravo, team Malek and team Saint Laurent.
