If anyone asks, we’re at the jewelers

Though you might be better used to seeing John Boyega throwing himself around onscreen wearing a dusty leather waistcoat while wielding a lightsaber, offscreen he’s quite the style hero.

Last year, he encouraged us to up our coat game and served some excellent red carpet ’fits. Now, he’s convinced us to invest in some serious jewellery. Cleverly managing not to look like Mr T, the 28-year-old British actor took to Instagram to show off his new necklace, which puts the simple chain worn by Normal People’s Paul Mescal to shame. Big, eye-catching and shiny, it’s further proof that in order for your outfit to take off, you’ll need to invest in some bling to go with it.

And he’s not alone. This year we’ve seen a boom in the amount of celebrities (as well as normal folk) wearing necklaces, with the likes of Harry Styles, Lil Nas X, Shawn Mendes and Billy Porter opting for bold neck-gear, whether chunky pearls or pendant-adorned chains. Meanwhile, Drake has been going hard in the jewellery department, impressing with his Jason Arasheben-designed diamond-encrusted OVO necklace.

On the catwalk it’s more of the same and the big brands, such as Celine, Gucci and Casablanca (where models were seen wearing more than one necklace), are all pushing for us to wear increasingly eye-catching neck adornments.

Luckily for you, you don’t need to be on a Goldman Sachs wage to purchase something as bold as Boyega. With brands such as Alighieri, Hatton Labs, Dear Letterman and Sweetlimejuice offering chunky gold medallions and elegantly designed chain-pendants at budget prices, you have no excuse not to go big.

Below are the pieces we’re digging right now.

Il Leone medallion by Alighieri, $278 at alighieri.co.uk
