This year's coolest sneakers only seem to be getting wilder and wilder. We're talking about everything from Craig Green's sculpture-esque Adidas sneakers to brightly colored runners from New Balance to retro-inspired, animal-printed Pumas. The demand for loud sneakers hasn't wavered one bit. Luckily, if you're looking for a respite from all this pumped-up footwear, Pharell Williams's newest drop with Adidas has you covered—and just in time for spring.
The latest capsule from Adidas and Pharell is modeled after vintage basketball styles from the 1980s and features two standout styles. (The hit producer and fashion legend have been making sneakers under his "Hu" label since 2016.) The first is a riff on an archival Three Stripes silhouette known as the "Continental 80," a style that was reintroduced as the widely released "Rascal" a couple of years back. Pharrell's version strips down the design to its bare essentials and then adds a pop of color in the form of bright orange laces. The second pair is a high-top silhouette (the "Nizza RF") that features a two-tone leather upper with rubber toe caps. Much like the other shoe, this one also comes with brightly colored laces. (This time, it's an electric shade of royal blue.)
Both styles are simple to wear. The duo of cream-colored sneakers and subdued and straightforward, but the colorful laces keep things from being too dull. It's not hard to imagine Skateboard P wearing the sneakers himself: either paired with his favorite roomy high-cropped chinos or the frayed-hem shorts he loves to wear so much. So, as spring finally rolls around, steal a move from Pharrell and pair these kicks with some expertly tailored pants (or shorts when the weather heats up) and let the compliments rain in.
