The face of K by Dolce&Gabbana tells us about cutting his hair, no rules eveningwear and winning an award

Mariano Di Vaio has, by any standard, had a big year. From being signed to be the face of K by Dolce&Gabbna, the Italian house's new fragrance, to winning GQ Middle East's Breakthrough model award, Di Vaio's 2019 has been pretty good.

It wasn't all plain sailing though. Challenged to cut his hair for the campaign with Dolce&Gabbana, Di Vaio had a choice to make: do away with his Instagram famous tresses, or turn down the request of two of fashion's biggest tastemakers. He chose wisely, and the rest, as they say, is history.

After collecting his award on stage, Mariano spoke to GQ Middle East about his evening, his Dolce&Gabbana suit and his famous hair.

Elsewhere on the night, Mo Salah was awarded Man of the Year. Tan France was named GQ’s International Man of Style. Syrian Poet Adunis was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award. Lebanese director Nadine Labaki won Woman of the Year and Turkish superstar Cagatay Ulusoy took the Television Star of the Year award.

To the delight of the crowd, Cheb Khaled received GQ’s Legend award and proceeded to raise the roof with a rendition of his smash hit single Aicha.

The night wrapped with the Salah, Ambrosio and Massoud joining guests and VIPs for an after-party at The Abu Dhabi Edition.
