We can’t all yacht along the Italian Riviera, but we can all aspire to do so – and that’s the feeling Ralph Lauren hopes to evoke for spring/summer 2020.
Since it first launched in 1994, Ralph Lauren Purple Label has ensured that men the world over don’t have to settle for anything less than luxurious, with the brand's line establishing itself as the go-to for tailored made-to-measure suits. No matter what the current trends dictate, the designer delivers the goods.
This isn’t Lauren’s first time drawing inspiration from nautical life, but this season sees a fresh pop of bright colours take the stage in Milan – or wherever else it is you’re heading during the warmer months of the year.
For eveningwear, single- and double-breasted silhouettes – in vivid shades of hot pink, saturated yellow, green, and orange – are tailored to perfection in lightweight silk shantung, with the daywear on offer including a multi-coloured cashmere plaid sportscoat.
More literal maritime inspirations see an assortment of activewear pieces incorporate Art Deco poster motifs, like sailboats, yachts, and lighthouses. Dreaming should be fun, after all.
But despite the lighthearted feel, and on a more serious fashion note, the collection features waterproof parkas and sailing jackets (functional, indeed) made from recycled plastic bottles, as the company continues its push towards sustainable manufacturing.
Then, for the more traditional Ralph guy, items in monochromatic greys, tans and navy keep things classic. And no collection would be complete without the iconic Polo Bear – seen this time rocking a double-breasted officer’s blazer on a crewneck sweater.
