The Five Hottest Pieces From The Louis Vuitton x Nigo Pre-fall 2020 Collection
Japanese designer Nigo is arguably one of the most important figures on the global streetwear landscape. The founder of Human Made, Bape and the cofounder of The Billionaire Boys Club, the Tokyo-based fashion maven has amassed a cult following during his two-decade-long career.
It should perhaps come as little surprise then that zeitgeist-tapping menswear designer Virgil Abloh has tapped Nigo for his next collaborative collection, Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2020.
Hitting stores in the late spring, the collection, titled LV Squared, is primarily tailoring focused, inspired as much by Nigo's fascination with British subcultures (note the preppy tasseled loafers and Brit Pop bucket hats) as by the designer's Japanese heritage.
Here, to help you get your shopping list started in good time, our Style And Grooming Director picks his five favourite pieces from the collection...
The monogrammed ice cream drips! The 1980s automotive-inspired handle! The 1970s redux logo! From where we're standing there's nothing not to love about this bag. It may be packing every design note minus the kitchen sink, but in our opinion that's all the more reason to get involved.
The denim suit
The kind of thing you'd hope and pray to find in one of Tokyo's many (invariably bountiful) consignment stores, this denim suit – with matching bucket hat and complementary Wallabees – is bang on the denim trend but also boasts a brilliant vintage feel, which, in my opinion, means it'll last the test of time.
There's a big neo-preppy mood in menswear right now and these monogrammed tassel loafers perfectly exemplify the arc of the trend. We might want to look bookish and collegiate, but we draw the line at not showing off our wealth while we're doing it.
The club tie
Case in point (see item three) this excellent monogram-yet-vintage take on a classic club tie. Particularly worthy of note is the excellently tight knot. This year is the year we'll see the return of the peanut-knot tie. Mark my words.
Continuing the preppy theme, this collegiate-style blazer with monogram pocket comes complete with a three-button fastening, which gives it a satisfying Jolie Laide aesthetic. A little bit Chariots Of Fire, a little bit new wave and a lot at the top of my shopping list.
