Break away to the cool, calm waters of the southern Mediterranean

If your dream holiday has you conjuring up images of nothing but swimming and sunbathing, the Turkish Riviera – or the Turquoise Coast, as it’s rightfully known – will hit the spot. Think of it like this: all the perks of the Med meets all the wonders of Turkey. Sun, sand, impossibly blue water, dazzling gastronomy and world-class hospitality. Are you with us? The Maxx Royal Kemer Resort, with its casual yet ultra-all-inclusive concept takes an already Instagram-worthy destination into overdrive.

Of course, a holiday should include as much kicking back as you’d like. The great thing about the Maxx Royal? You can experience that kicking back in a million different ways beyond the suite or villa. The resort’s award-winning architecture is a kind of synergy of land and sea – and while that might sound a little airy-fairy, it delivers said synergy in droves, taking advantage of a prime location between two bays, surrounded by pine trees, and with a long private beach at the skirt of the Taurus Mountains. This is a place that feels like a film set – something that wouldn’t feel out of place in, say, The Talented Mr Ripley…particularly if you pack a crisp linen shirt or two.

But it doesn’t only look good, it aims to do good too. The resort itself has a green roof system, with an ecological space created specifically as a healthy biological home to birds, insects and plants.

None of this comes at the cost of luxury. The royal treatment begins before you even arrive. Stay seven nights or more during the summer season, and a helicopter will be waiting at the airport, ready to whisk you to the hotel and back.

Maybe you’ve experienced a personal butler service before – they can often be a glorified concierge. No such issues here. Upon arrival, GQ quickly had a bespoke experience crafted by a personal Maxx Assistant. These butlers will request your input on dinner plans, carefully curated daily itineraries, and even their pillow menu (you can pick from five options).

If you’ve booked yourself into one of the special villas, a butler and private chef service will be on call. And, if skipping out on your fitness routine isn’t part of this holiday agenda (well done, you), in-house professional trainers are at the ready to keep your fitness goals on track.

We’d be remiss not to mention the personalised spa programme, which is upsettingly brilliant. Consider a traditional bath ritual, peerless massage therapy or skincare treatment – or go all-in on what the Turks do best, and embrace hedonistic back-to-back hammam experiences. We opted for the Absolute Detox – a treatment that reduces fluid retention and toxins (hello, leaner self). Best of all, by the time you head back to your suite in a perfect holiday daze, you’ll find that, yes, your personal butler has aromatised your room with the fragrance of your choice. Everything as it should be.

Here, the number of dining options is borderline paralysing – you can (and should) embark on a culinary journey that starts with theatrical teppanyaki chef shows, pivots to food coma-inducing Italian, and ends with Anatolian dishes done right. Chef Tim Boury has brought his Michelin-starred Belgian slow dining concept to Emerald Gastro restaurant, serving European classics that are, frankly, worthy of a repeat visit.

Yes, Monaco is flashier. Sure, Croatia is vibier. But, by the time the sun sinks on your time in this pocket of the Med, you’ll come to realise that Turkey is dreamier.
