The Peninsula Paris Has Thought Of Everything... Everything!
Here’s an incomplete list of things that are awfully difficult to find in Paris: a luxurious place to sleep that’s larger than a shoebox, peace, and quiet. Finding them is a worthy mission. Happily, you can.
The Peninsula’s Hongkonger concept really comes into its own in the City of Lights. There’s the lobby whose beauty you can’t help savouring every time you set foot in it. And what a lobby it is: this heritage building has been lovingly updated, and its public spaces are dotted with wild design flexes from 40,000 pieces of gold leaf to a sculpture comprised of hundreds of crystal flecks. Not enough for your design eye? You’re a short stroll to the Tour Eiffel and Musées galore. (We would be criminal to not recommend the excellent Girafe restaurant. You’ll be dazzled equally by the grape as you are the view to the looming Eiffel.)
Really, at this level of excellence, what you’re really paying for is attention to detail. The Peninsula Paris is no mere 5-star hotel: no, it’s secured bragging rights beyond that, earning the city of Paris’ elusive “Palace” grade. And you don’t need to be a Michelin reviewer to understand why. Sometimes it’s best to think of a hotel stay as a series of tests passed: momentum built, maintained, and then built upon again. The Peninsula does in style.
Expecting a delivery, but don’t quite know your timings? You only need to get acquainted with the ingenious Valet Box – a sort of luxe void in the wall beside your room’s door, which enables things like newspapers, online shopping and letters to be dropped off, day or night, without the risk of disturbance or missing a knock on the door.
Around every corner, there’s more detail, more thought: the phone in your room enables free calls, worldwide. When you use the digital touchscreen in the bathroom to start the spa, your room’s Do Not Disturb sign will turn on automatically, your in-room phone’s ringer will be muted. And when you finally depart that bathroom, packing away your toiletries, you’ll find, tucked away, perfectly-sized, TSA-approved bags to take your grooming essentials on the plane, without a moment’s hesitation. In short, everything has been thought through, so you don’t need to do the thinking.
If you’re strapped for dinner ideas, the thinking’s been done for you again. There’s L’Oiseau Blanc, the hotel’s rooftop crown. Sure, it’s a stunning French dining experience, but it might be the sweeping views across the city that you remember the longest. If you’d rather something closer to the Peninsula’s roots, opt for LiLi, Cantonese experience that’s a wonderfully honest expression of the brand.
Over and over again, a stay at the Peninsula Paris had us saying, “Why has nobody else thought of that?” You’ll walk away glad that these guys did.
