In Detail: The Marine 5517 From Breguet
In 2017 we saw Breguet give a new face to its Marine line with the highly complicated Équation Marchante 5887. 2018 marks the second year that the watchmakers have focused on their sports collection with the Marine 5517.
This latest timepiece comes in three variations of white gold, rose gold and titanium. The latter material was chosen for its (appropriate) resistance to salty air and corrosion, as well as its famously light and resilient properties.

Each model displays the date at 3 o’clock within a 40mm dial featuring Roman numeral hour markers, with these, the minute markings and Breguet hands all coated with a luminescent material. The seconds hand comes bearing a “B” motif as a reinterpreted version of the maritime signal flag.
Marine themes continue with the engine turned “wave” motif on the dials of the rose and white gold versions, whereas the titanium model features a sunburst slate version. Depending on the model, various strap options are available including brown or blue leather, or – for the true sports watch devotee – a rubber version is also offered.

Each Marine 5517 features the calibre 777 self-winding movement with a power reserve of 55 hours and water resistance to 55 metres. Prices begin at $18,000 for the titanium model and go up to $29,000 for the white or rose gold version.
